Prancing around Otago

I'm pretty sure it was my camera that was crooked and not the lake.

Yellow-eyed penguins

There's only a handful of these little guys left around Otago as there are no fishies left for them to eat because of all the nasty industrial fishing going on in their sea... Ponder that, ye carnivores!

Nothing until Chile

Another one of those weird, unsettling moments.

We stood here and watched the albatrosses fly around us.

I had strange images of Captain Ahab and the Old Marinere dancing around in my head, confused memories from the good old days - shit, I'm getting old! - ten years ago almost.

From this point, Pacific Ocean and not a single scrap of land all the way to Chile. That's a long way to go and a hell of a lot of ocean.

Just a thought

I was quite nervous before leaving for NZ. I'd been in Perth for about 2 weeks and was finding it quite hard to digest. So far. So isolated.

So, obviously, I decided to go a bit further.

This will sound very stupid, but during those few days, I kept finding myself thinking that I would have to be careful not to trip over, once I got there, as I'd fall off the planet.

It took me a while to shake that thought out of my little head.

On a whim: a month in New Zealand

Apologies for the lack of updates. Clearly, I suck at this.

The last month has been unexpected, and random, and difficult, and wonderful. I have yet to wrap my head around it.

On a whim, I headed to Melbourne for a week. I ended up staying a month. Still counting. I love it. But more on that another time.

In the meantime, let's rewind to mid February, when I took myself over to New Zealand for a month. So stay tuned for some breathtakingly beautiful landscapes, cos there's an obscene amount of those coming this way!

A new start

So. Let's give this another go, shall we?

First, though, a couple of changes.

A new layout - thoughts?

I also quit my job. Which means I have a lot of spare time on my hands (at least for now). So I might even master up the discipline to post more regularly, who knows.

Oh, and I've moved to the other side of the planet. Perth, Australia to be exact. Jury's still out on that one. But at least I've digged out my camera from a forgotten corner of my wardrobe, so that's good.

Anyway, with no further ado: ladies and gentlemen, NO DIRECTION HOME, live from Down Under!

He's so vain

Back in Rameswaram, I caught this face in the middle of the crowd (remember this and this?).

His gaze never reached my lense, but I wonder whether he knew that I was watching. As the moment stretched on for what seemed like an eternity, I snapped away. I love this little sequence.
